Raymond A. McGhee, Fentanyl Distribution Resulting in Death, Ohio 2023

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The grim streets of Columbus have once again been witness to the devastation of drug trafficking. Raymond A. McGhee, 37, a resident of Hilliard, has been indicted by a federal grand jury for distributing fentanyl that resulted in a tragic overdose death.

McGhee, also known as “Red” and “Draco,” faces a second superseding indictment that charges him with distributing fentanyl resulting in death – a crime with a potential sentence of at least 20 years and up to life imprisonment. The Hilliard man is also charged with five additional drug counts and two firearms-related crimes.

According to the charging documents, McGhee’s deadly distribution occurred on February 22. His fall from grace began when patrol officers from the Columbus Division of Police apprehended him during a routine traffic stop. Officers discovered a pistol and a sock filled with baggies containing fentanyl and cocaine hidden under the carpet of the passenger side floorboard.

United States Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio, Dominick S. Gerace II; Acting Special Agent in Charge Thomas A. Greco of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATF); and Columbus Police Chief Elaine Bryant announced the charges against McGhee. Assistant United States Attorneys Noah R. Litton and Jennifer M. Rausch are representing the United States in this case.

It is important to remember that an indictment merely contains allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
