A local man has pleaded guilty to participating in a heroin trafficking conspiracy, a crime that can carry a life sentence.

Shelby Jeffries, Jr., 33, of Homestead, Pennsylvania, was charged with violating federal narcotics laws after a lengthy investigation by a federally administered Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF).

The sentencing is scheduled for August 19, 2016 at 10:00 a.m., giving Jeffries and his lawyers a chance to plead their case to Chief United States District Judge Joy Flowers Conti.
