Yovani De Jesus Alvarez Murillo, a 42-year-old Honduran national, has been charged with illegal reentry after being removed from the US in 2013. Alvarez was first encountered in the US in 2005 and has since been arrested multiple times in Connecticut for various crimes, including driving under the influence, larceny, and forgery. He was removed to Honduras in October 2013 after serving a sentence in Connecticut. However, it is alleged that Alvarez reentered the US illegally and was encountered again in August 2021.
Alvarez’s history of arrests in Connecticut dates back to 2005, when he was arrested by the New York State Police in Tarrytown, New York, for driving while ability impaired. He was also arrested by the Greenwich Police in 2008 for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs/alcohol, and by the Stamford Police multiple times for various crimes.
The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) interviewed Alvarez in 2012, while he was serving a sentence in the custody of the Connecticut Department of Correction. During the interview, Alvarez admitted to having illegally entered the US in approximately 2002 by crossing the border from Mexico.
The charge of illegal reentry carries significant consequences, and Alvarez faces serious penalties if convicted. The case is being handled by the US Attorney’s Office for the District of Connecticut, in partnership with ICE and other law enforcement agencies.
