NASHVILLE – Darryl Deshaun Humphrey, 49, of Nashville, is facing a fresh set of federal charges after a traffic stop turned up a significant haul of fentanyl, cocaine, two firearms, and a hefty stack of cash. Humphrey, already out on bond for a slew of other offenses, now finds himself accused of being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and cocaine, and possession of a firearm during a drug trafficking crime. The charges were announced by Acting United States Attorney Robert E. McGuire for the Middle District of Tennessee.
“Our Bond Watch program prioritizes keeping felons who are on bond for serious offenses but get caught with guns and deadly drugs like fentanyl off the streets of our community,” McGuire stated bluntly. “Those on bond awaiting trial need to know that if they continue to violate the law we will hold them accountable for their crimes and keep our citizens safe from their dangerous and illegal activity.” This isn’t just about the current bust; it’s a clear message to anyone thinking of re-offending while awaiting trial.
The bust went down June 19, 2025, when Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) officers spotted Humphrey standing outside the driver’s side door of a Cadillac Escalade at a gas station on Whites Creek Pike and W. Trinity Lane. A check of the Escalade’s plates revealed a suspended license for Humphrey, the registered owner. As officers approached, Humphrey hopped from the driver’s seat to the passenger seat, then tried to claim he wasn’t driving. He ignored officer commands to stop walking and adopted a “fighting stance,” prompting an officer to deploy a taser and take him into custody. The scene quickly escalated, but it was what officers found inside the vehicle that truly painted the picture.
A quick search of the Escalade revealed a large plastic bag containing a white, rocky substance consistent with controlled substances on the driver’s side floorboard. A firearm was also visible on the driver’s seat. The search turned up two large plastic bags containing approximately 257 grams and 378.9 grams of fentanyl, along with 1.27 pounds of suspected cocaine. Officers also seized a box of empty plastic baggies, five digital scales, and a staggering $18,600 in U.S. Currency. Multiple unidentified controlled substance pills were also recovered. The weaponry included a Ruger, Caliber: 9x19mm pistol and a Caspian, Caliber: .45 ACP pistol.
This isn’t Humphrey’s first rodeo. The 49-year-old has a lengthy criminal history, including multiple felony convictions in both state and federal courts. Davidson County Criminal Court records show convictions for Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana (two-year sentence), and two counts of Possession with Intent to Distribute Controlled Substance – Cocaine .5grams or more (eight-year and six-year sentences). He also served a 10-year sentence in U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee for Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine.
Adding insult to injury, Humphrey was already out on bond for a separate set of charges: Possession with Intent to Distribute more than 26 grams of cocaine, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Dangerous Felony, Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Evading Arrest, and Resisting Arrest. This latest arrest underscores the revolving door of justice and raises questions about the effectiveness of the current bond system in keeping dangerous criminals off the streets. Humphrey now faces a significantly steeper climb, potentially adding decades to his already extensive prison record.”
