Quintez Robert Kilgore, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, West Virginia 2023

A Huntington man has been caught red-handed with a Glock and a stash of illicit substances, and now he’s facing serious time in the slammer.

Quintez Robert Kilgore, 28, of Huntington, pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm in a federal court hearing. The charges stem from a November 6, 2023, encounter with law enforcement officers on Olive Street in Huntington. Officers were on the hunt for a fugitive when they spotted Kilgore, who was attempting to conceal a Glock Model 33 .357-caliber pistol under a nearby vehicle.

Kilgore’s attempt to hide the firearm was a dead giveaway, and officers seized the gun along with 12.64 grams of cocaine base, also known as ‘crack,’ and 9.78 grams of fentanyl. Kilgore admitted that he intended to distribute the seized controlled substances.

The defendant’s priors are no excuse – Kilgore has two prior felony convictions, one for possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance in Cabell County Circuit Court in 2017, and another for being a person prohibited from possessing firearms in Wayne County Circuit Court in 2020. This makes him a repeat offender, and federal law prohibits felons from possessing firearms or ammunition.

Kilgore’s guilty plea is a serious blow to his freedom, and now he’s facing a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison, up to three years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine. The courtroom was packed with law enforcement officials as United States Attorney Will Thompson announced the guilty plea and commended the investigative work of the United States Marshals Service and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in local communities. This case highlights the importance of community-based law enforcement and the need for continued vigilance in the fight against crime.

United States District Judge Robert C. Chambers presided over the hearing, and Assistant United States Attorney Joseph F. Adams is prosecuting the case. Kilgore is scheduled to be sentenced on September 3, 2024. The case is a stark reminder that crime has consequences, and law enforcement will continue to crack down on those who break the law.
