Crime Pays, But Not for Long: Huntington Man Sentenced for Crack Cocaine Charge
Huntington, WV – In a move to curb the city’s crack cocaine epidemic, a Huntington man has been sentenced to 90 months in federal prison for possessing and intending to distribute the deadly substance.
Daniel Legette, 45, was caught with approximately 100 individually wrapped bags of crack cocaine, totaling approximately 23 grams, in his residence on Oakland Avenue in Huntington on November 12, 2020, according to court documents.
Legette, who was on supervised release at the time of the offense for a prior federal drug conviction, was sentenced to an additional 12 months and one day in federal prison after his release was revoked.
United States District Judge Robert C. Chambers imposed the sentences, which will run consecutively for a total sentence of 90 months and one day. Acting United States Attorney Lisa G. Johnston made the announcement and commended the investigative work of the Huntington Police Department.
Assistant United States Attorney Joseph F. Adams handled the prosecution. The conviction is a significant blow to the city’s efforts to combat the growing problem of crack cocaine possession and distribution.
During the search, officers also seized additional quantities of methamphetamine, heroin, and a rifle. Legette admitted to possessing and intending to distribute all of the drugs seized by police.
