Illinois Man Charged with Grooming Minors Online
Terrence E. Fabino, a 61-year-old Grayslake, Illinois resident, has been hit with a federal indictment for allegedly attempting to exploit minors online.
According to the Department of Justice’s United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, Fabino is accused of violating Title 18, United States Code, Sections 1470 and 2251(a) and (e), which prohibit the attempted sexual exploitation of a minor and the attempted transfer of obscene matters to a minor.
The indictment alleges that on November 20, 2023, Fabino knowingly attempted to employ, use, persuade, induce, entice, and coerce a minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct. It further alleges that on October 26, 2023, Fabino attempted to transfer obscene material to a minor under 16 years of age.
If convicted, Fabino faces a mandatory 15 years’ imprisonment and up to 30 years’ imprisonment for the enticement charge. He also faces up to 10 years’ imprisonment for the transfer of obscenity charge.
The case was investigated by the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office with the assistance of the Lake County Illinois Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney Daniel R. Humble will be prosecuting the case.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. Launched in May 2006 by the U.S. Department of Justice, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the internet and to identify and rescue victims.
An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. The defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the government must prove him guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
