A federal grand jury in Wisconsin has indicted a 61-year-old Illinois man on charges of attempting to exploit and transfer obscene material to a minor, federal authorities announced Monday.
Terrence E. Fabino of Grayslake, Illinois, was charged with one count of attempted sexual exploitation of a minor and one count of attempted transfer of obscene matters to a minor, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Wisconsin.
The indictment alleges that on November 20, 2023, Fabino knowingly attempted to employ, use, persuade, induce, entice, and coerce a minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct. It further alleges that on October 26, 2023, Fabino attempted to transfer obscene material to a minor under 16 years of age.
Fabino faces a mandatory 15 years’ imprisonment and up to 30 years’ imprisonment if convicted of the enticement charge. He faces up to 10 years’ imprisonment if convicted of the transfer of obscenity charge, according to the indictment.
The case was investigated by the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office with the assistance of the Lake County Illinois Sheriff’s Office. It will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Daniel R. Humble.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006, by the U.S. Department of Justice. Led by U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. The defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the government must prove him guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
