TEXARKANA, ARKANSAS — In a stunning blow to the drug trade, Sidney Hunt, 42, from South Bend, Indiana, was sentenced yesterday to 235 months in federal prison followed by five years of supervised release. Hunt’s punishment stems from his possession of 20 kilograms of cocaine with intent to distribute.
Hunt faced charges after an Arkansas State Trooper conducted a traffic stop on February 26, 2022, leading to a high-speed chase and ultimately Hunt’s capture. The drugs were found in the vehicle Hunt was driving on Interstate 30 near Hope, Arkansas.
According to court documents, Hunt initially consented to a search but fled when he realized the magnitude of his haul. He was later apprehended walking alongside the interstate. The seized cocaine has an estimated street value of $360,000 at the time of the arrest.
Hunt was indicted on drug trafficking charges in July 2022 and found guilty by a federal jury in April 2025. The prosecution revealed that Hunt sourced the drugs in Texas and planned to deliver them to a Tennessee drug trafficker when he was intercepted by Arkansas law enforcement.
The investigation was led by the Arkansas State Police, Drug Enforcement Administration, and Hempstead County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Devon Still and Graham Jones prosecuted the case on behalf of the United States.
