Billy Boortz, a 43-year-old federal inmate from Duval County, Texas, was sentenced to five years in federal prison for possessing methamphetamine with the intent to distribute. The incident occurred on July 18, 2025, at the Coleman Federal Correctional Complex in Sumter County, Florida. Boortz attempted to assault corrections officers when they ordered him to submit to a search, but was eventually subdued and found to have over nine grams of methamphetamine hidden in his sock.
