IOWA CITY, IA – Alfred Washington Jr., 46, has been handed a 27-month sentence for being a felon in possession of ammunition.

Washington was caught with shooting accessories during a search warrant at his Iowa City home. Court documents reveal that the evidence also included videos of Washington at a local gun range, found on his phone.

The 46-year-old has a history of firearm-related offenses, notably a 2018 conviction for being a felon in possession of a firearm and domestic abuser in the Northern District of Iowa. The court’s decision to sentence Washington without parole is in line with federal law.

Upon his release from prison, Washington will be under supervised release for three years, according to U.S. Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa. The announcement was made as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing gun violence and violent crime.

Investigation into this case was led by the Iowa City Police Department, which has been instrumental in PSN’s efforts to foster trust and legitimacy in local communities. The project focuses on strategic enforcement priorities and measures results to ensure neighborhood safety.
