Michael Mason, Second-Degree Murder, Washington District of Columbia 2020

Washington – In a gritty turn of justice, Michael Mason, 21, from Washington, D.C., has entered a guilty plea for two counts of second-degree murder. The crimes occurred in April and May 2020 in the heart of the nation’s capital.

Mason’s guilty plea, pending court approval, is tied to the shooting deaths of Brea Moon, 21, and Antwuan Roach, 18. Sentencing has been scheduled for October 31st, 2025, with a potential sentence ranging from 27 to 31 years in prison followed by supervised release.

According to the government’s evidence, Mason was involved in a shooting at a BP gas station on April 7th, 2020. Riding in a stolen white vehicle, he fired upon a gray sedan, killing Moon inside. In May, Mason tracked down Roach and shot him, resulting in his death.

Joining the announcement were Metropolitan Police Department Chief Pamela Smith, who commended the tireless work of law enforcement agencies involved in the case, including the U.S. Secret Service, FBI, U.S. Marshals Service, and Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force.

In addition to these commendations, U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro and Chief Smith expressed gratitude for Assistant U.S. Attorneys Gauri Gopal, Julia Cosans, Sarah Folse, Yasmin Emrani, Daniel Bromwich, Gregory Kimak, and Alec Levy, who led the investigation and prosecution.

This guilty plea marks another significant victory in the ongoing fight against violent crime in Washington, D.C.
