Heroin Dealer Pleads Guilty in Connection to Greenwich Overdose Death

A 21-year-old man from Brooklyn, N.Y., has pleaded guilty to a heroin charge stemming from an overdose death in Greenwich, Connecticut.

Isaiah Hart, 21, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute, and to distribute, heroin in connection to the overdose death of a 26-year-old man in Greenwich in December 2015.

According to court documents, the victim had contacted ‘Tony’ to order heroin in response to a Craig’s List advertisement for ‘dog food.’ On December 7, 2015, the victim drove from Greenwich to Brooklyn and purchased two bundles (20 bags) of heroin from Hart for $185.

The victim died on December 8, 2015, after overdosing on the heroin. Investigators determined that the heroin was stamped with a green-colored label ‘Emerald City.’

Hart was arrested on April 14, 2016, on a federal criminal complaint. He has related drug charges pending in Brooklyn stemming from his selling heroin, in bags stamped ‘Emerald City,’ to an undercover law enforcement officer on December 8, 2015.

Hart faces a maximum term of imprisonment of 20 years and is currently released on bond pending sentencing. Judge Michael P. Shea scheduled sentencing for May 18, 2017.

This matter is being investigated by the DEA’s New Haven Task Force and the Greenwich Police Department. U.S. Attorney Deirdre M. Daly acknowledged the significant assistance of the New York Police Department in this investigation.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Peter S. Jongbloed with the assistance of Law Student Intern William Kukin.

The Greenwich Police Department and the DEA’s New Haven Task Force worked together to bring Hart to justice, and their efforts are a testament to the importance of collaboration in combating the opioid epidemic.
