Isaiah Peeples, Possession of Firearm and Heroin, Pennsylvania 2017

In a shocking turn of events, 27-year-old Isaiah Peeples has pleaded guilty to three counts of firearm and heroin charges in federal court. On March 29, 2017, Peeples was found to be in possession of a firearm and ammunition after previously being convicted of a felony, and he also had a quantity of heroin in his possession with the intent to distribute it.

According to the United States Attorney Scott W. Brady, Peeples’ illegal activities were uncovered through an investigation conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police. The case was prosecuted under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime by targeting the most violent offenders.

Assistant United States Attorney Heidi M. Grogan is leading the prosecution of this case. The court was advised that Peeples’ guilty plea is connected to the firearm and heroin charges he faced, and he is now scheduled to be sentenced on April 12, 2019, at 2:15 p.m.

The law provides for a total sentence of not less than 5 years and up to life in prison, a fine not to exceed $2,000,000, or both. The actual sentence imposed will be based on the seriousness of the offenses and Peeples’ prior criminal history, if any.

Project Safe Neighborhoods is an evidence-based program proven to be effective at reducing violent crime. Through PSN, a broad spectrum of stakeholders work together to identify the most pressing violent crime problems in the community and develop comprehensive solutions to address them.

The prosecution of Peeples’ case is a prime example of PSN’s success in reducing violent crime. By targeting the most violent offenders and partnering with locally based prevention and reentry programs, PSN aims to create lasting reductions in crime.

The Pittsburgh community can rest a little easier knowing that Peeples is facing the consequences of his actions. As the investigation and prosecution of this case continue, it is clear that PSN is making a positive impact in the area.
