Oxycodone Dealer Sentenced to Up to 5 Years
A Greenbrier County man has pleaded guilty to distributing oxycodone, a highly addictive painkiller. Ronald Ray McMillion, 63, of Renick, West Virginia, admitted to traveling to the Baltimore area to obtain oxycodone pills in February 2014. He then sold some of the pills in Greenbrier County.
McMillion’s guilty plea to interstate travel to facilitate an unlawful activity was announced by Acting United States Attorney Carol Casto. He faces up to five years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine when he is sentenced on August 17, 2016.
The case was investigated by the West Virginia State Police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant United States Attorney John File is handling the prosecution. The plea hearing was held before United States District Judge Irene C. Berger.
This prosecution is part of an ongoing effort led by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia to combat the illicit sale and misuse of prescription drugs and heroin. The U.S. Attorney’s Office, joined by federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, is committed to aggressively pursuing and shutting down illegal pill trafficking, eliminating open air drug markets, and curtailing the spread of opiate painkillers and heroin in communities across the Southern District.
The distribution of oxycodone has become a major concern in West Virginia, where the opioid epidemic has claimed countless lives. McMillion’s guilty plea serves as a reminder that law enforcement is committed to bringing those responsible for the distribution of these deadly pills to justice.
The United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia will continue to work tirelessly to combat the opioid crisis and keep our communities safe.
