Canton Man Sentenced to 10+ Years in Prison for Crack Cocaine Trafficking
A Canton man, Jack D. Wise, 40, has been sentenced to over 10 years in federal prison for his involvement in drug and firearms crimes. On March 9, 2017, Wise was arrested and found to be in possession of 28 grams of crack cocaine, a handgun, a shotgun, and over 170 rounds of ammunition.
Wise’s arrest was a result of a previous conviction in Stark County Common Pleas Court for trafficking in LSD. The court documents state that Wise had been previously convicted of a similar offense, which further exacerbated the severity of his current charges.
The charges against Wise include possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine and using a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking. He was found guilty of these charges and subsequently sentenced to 130 months in prison.
U.S. Attorney Justin E. Herdman stated, ‘People who use firearms as a tool of their drug trafficking doubly put the community at risk.’ He went on to praise the efforts of the ATF, Canton Police Department, and the Stark County Sheriff’s Office in making the community safer.
This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Aaron P. Howell, following an investigation by the ATF, Canton Police Department, and the Stark County Sheriff’s Office. The investigation and subsequent prosecution have undoubtedly made a significant impact on the community.
