Jason Cory, Tax Evasion, Florida 2024

Jason Cory, 49, of Jacksonville, is headed to federal prison for 32 months after being convicted of willfully evading more than $600,000 in federal income taxes. The former CEO exploited his position at an IT services firm to funnel over $1.5 million through a sham shell company, Gambit Matrix LLC, which he secretly controlled.

Court records show that from 2015 through 2018, Cory directed payments to Gambit Matrix under the false claim that the funds were for consulting services never rendered. As CEO of the Jacksonville-based IT company from 2017 to 2019, he manipulated company finances to disguise his theft, all while failing to file federal tax returns for three consecutive years—2016 through 2018—and omitting income in 2015.

To cover his tracks, Cory fabricated emails, falsified IRS Form W-9s, and invented fake owners for Gambit Matrix to deceive both his employer and federal authorities. The fraud allowed him to use stolen funds for personal expenses, including rent, credit card payments, and private club memberships—luxuries paid for by American taxpayers.

U.S. District Court Judge Marcia Morales Howard also sentenced Cory to 36 months of supervised release and ordered him to pay $606,195 in restitution to the United States. The judgment marks the end of a multi-year investigation into Cory’s elaborate financial deception.

“For years, Jason Cory operated out of a sense of entitlement and greed, leading him to defraud previous employers and honest law-abiding taxpayers,” said IRS-CI Acting Special Agent in Charge Ronald A. Loecker. “The conviction and sentence show that IRS-CI will vigorously investigate those individuals intent on concealing their income, whether through the use of fictitious shell entities such as Gambit Matrix, or other sophisticated means.”

Sherri E. Onks, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Jacksonville Division, emphasized the collaborative law enforcement effort: “The sentencing of Jason Cory is the result of a multi-agency effort to ensure justice for the American taxpayer. Instead of following the law, Cory blatantly ignored it, and selfishly lined his wallet with money he wasn’t entitled to. The FBI and our law enforcement partners will continue to allocate expert resources to investigate these crimes and prosecute those who are intent on defrauding the American public.”
