Rapid City Man Sentenced for Ammunition Possession

A Rapid City man was sentenced to federal prison for illegally possessing ammunition.

Jake Williams, 38, was sentenced to 42 months in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release and ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.

The conviction stems from Williams, a previously convicted felon who is prohibited from possessing ammunition, knowingly possessing 9mm rounds of ammunition which were found after Williams came into contact with law enforcement in April 2021 at Rapid City.

Williams was indicted by a federal grand jury on April 22, 2021, and pleaded guilty on July 26, 2021.

The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Rapid City Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Benjamin Patterson prosecuted the case.

Williams was immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
