Jalen Chapman, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, West Virginia 2018
A Charleston man has pleaded guilty to a federal gun crime, admitting to possessing firearms despite a previous felony conviction.
Jalen Chapman, 28, was arrested on September 29, 2018, by officers with the Charleston Police Department on outstanding warrants at a residence on Barber Drive in Charleston.
During the search of the residence, officers seized two firearms: a .45 caliber Sig Sauer 1911 pistol and a .38 Special Taurus revolver. Chapman admitted that the firearms belonged to him and that he knew he was prohibited from possessing them due to his previous felony drug trafficking offense in Kanawha County Circuit Court.
Chapman faces up to 10 years in prison when sentenced on July 12, 2021.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Charleston Police Department conducted the investigation.
Assistant United States Attorney Negar M. Kordestani is handling the prosecution, and United States District Judge Joseph R. Goodwin presided over the hearing.
