Fatal Overdose Leads to Fentanyl Trafficking Charges
A tragic overdose in Farmington, Missouri has led to a guilty plea in a fentanyl trafficking case. James B. Link, 31, admitted to supplying the deadly substance to a man who later died from an overdose.
According to court documents, Link discussed bringing fentanyl pills to the victim on June 14, 2025, through messages. His vehicle was spotted leaving the victim’s home shortly before the death. The next day, investigators interviewed Link, who confessed to delivering blue and yellow pills containing fentanyl to the victim shortly before he died.
During the investigation, authorities found the same blue and yellow pills in Link’s house, linking him to the crime. The Ste. Genevieve County Sheriff’s Office, the Mineral Area Drug Task Force, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol collaborated on the case.
Link is set to be sentenced on July 9, 2025, and faces up to 20 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, or both. Assistant U.S. Attorney Chris Shelton is prosecuting the case.
The charges against Link serve as a stark reminder of the devastating impact of fentanyl trafficking in Missouri. The state has been grappling with a surge in overdose deaths, with many cases linked to the illicit substance.
As the investigation continues, it is clear that the consequences of fentanyl trafficking can be severe. James B. Link’s guilty plea is a step towards justice for the victim and their loved ones, but it also highlights the need for continued efforts to combat the opioid epidemic in Missouri.
