James Dockins, Fentanyl Possession, Indiana 2024

A South Bend man has been sentenced to 10 years and 8 months in prison for his role in a fentanyl trafficking operation.

James Dockins, 37, was sentenced by United States District Court Judge Damon R. Leichty on February 14, 2024 after pleading guilty to possessing with intent to distribute fentanyl.

According to court documents, in February 2024, Dockins received a package containing over 400 grams of fentanyl pills, which he stored in his home alongside other fentanyl pills packaged for distribution.

When law enforcement attempted to stop Dockins, he fled in his car through a residential neighborhood before crashing into a fire hydrant and surrendering.

This case was investigated by the United States Postal Inspection Service, including the USPIS Forensic Laboratory, with assistance from the Drug Enforcement Administration, the United States Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force, the Mishawaka Police Department, the St. Joseph County Police Department, and the Indiana State Police.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Lydia T. Lucius.

Dockins was sentenced to 128 months in prison followed by 3 years of supervised release.
