COVINGTON, Ky. – The hammer has fallen on David M. Elliot, 35, of Maysville, Kentucky, as he was sentenced to a staggering 262-months behind bars for his role in methamphetamine trafficking.
In a courtroom drama that unfolded on Thursday, Chief U.S. District Judge David Bunning handed down the sentence after Elliot pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute over 50 grams of meth. The drugs were intercepted during a traffic stop on September 1, 2024, where police found two bags of meth in Courtney Beckett’s purse and 165.5 grams on Elliot’s body.
Elliot, who was already on parole for previous drug trafficking charges, confessed that he and Beckett had traveled to the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky area to purchase the drugs with plans to return to Maysville. It was revealed during his plea agreement that he instructed Beckett to carry the meth for him.
Beckett herself faced 66 months in prison, plus three years of supervised release, for her role in the crime. Elliot’s previous conviction and parole status at the time of this offense only served to worsen his fate.
Under federal law, Elliot is required to serve 85% of his sentence before being released from custody. Upon his eventual release, he will be under the watchful eye of the U.S. Probation Office for a decade.
The sentence was jointly announced by Paul McCaffrey, Acting United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky; Jim Scott, Special Agent in Charge of DEA Louisville Field Division; and Chief Casey Kilgore of the Ft. Thomas Police Department. The DEA and Ft. Thomas Police Department conducted the investigation leading to Elliot’s conviction, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Joel King representing the United States in court.
