Prosecutor’s Fall from Power: Admits Sex Crimes and Lying to the FBI
In a shocking turn of events, James Isaac ‘Ike’ Crabtree, the former municipal prosecuting attorney for Jefferson County, Missouri, pleaded guilty to federal charges, admitting to having sexual contact with a defendant and subsequently lying to the FBI.
Crabtree, 40, pleaded guilty to two counts: deprivation of rights under color of law, namely the woman’s right to bodily integrity, and making false statements to the FBI.
According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Hal Goldsmith, Crabtree met with the woman in his office in the courthouse, after regular business hours, on March 8, 2021. He promised to dismiss her cases before directing her to take her clothes off.
Crabtree’s actions have sparked outrage, with many questioning how such a high-ranking official could engage in such heinous behavior. The case raises serious concerns about the power dynamics at play in the justice system and the need for greater accountability.
The civil rights charge carries a penalty of up to a year in prison, a $100,000 fine, or both. The charge of lying to the FBI carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Crabtree is scheduled to be sentenced on November 15.
The FBI investigated the case, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Hal Goldsmith is prosecuting the case. Crabtree’s guilty plea is a significant blow to his once-promising career, and his actions will undoubtedly have far-reaching consequences.
