Pittsburgh Man Faces 10 Years in Prison for Possessing Child Pornography
A Pittsburgh man is facing a decade behind bars after admitting to possessing child pornography, a serious crime that has left many in the community outraged.
James Stover, 28, formerly of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, pleaded guilty in federal court to a charge of possession of material depicting the sexual exploitation of a minor. The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
According to court documents, Stover knowingly possessed videos and images in computer graphic files, the production of which involved the use of minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct, some of whom had not yet attained 12 years of age. The Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted the investigation that led to the prosecution of Stover.
Assistant United States Attorney Jessica Lieber Smolar is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government. The law provides for a total sentence of 10 years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both.
The case against Stover is a stark reminder of the devastating impact of child pornography on its victims. The production and distribution of such material are serious crimes that can have long-lasting effects on the lives of those involved.
Stover is scheduled to be sentenced on May 12, 2015, at 10 a.m. by United States District Judge Gustave Diamond. The community hopes that justice will be served and that Stover will receive the maximum sentence for his crimes.
