Washington County Man Sentenced for Ticket Scam

PITTSBURGH – A resident of Washington, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced in federal court for his role in a ticket fraud scheme that targeted unsuspecting buyers on Craigslist, Grimy Times has learned.

According to court documents, Jamie McNamara, 32, of Washington, PA, falsely represented that he had tickets to entertainment events to potential purchasers on Craigslist from March 1, 2014, to March 17, 2014. He would then have potential purchasers wire money for these tickets, but McNamara did not provide any tickets.

McNamara was sentenced to three years’ probation, with two months to be served on home detention, for his conviction of conspiracy and wire fraud, Acting United States Attorney Soo C. Song announced today.

United States District Judge Nora Barry Fischer imposed the sentence on McNamara.

Assistant United States Attorney Shardul S. Desai prosecuted this case on behalf of the government.

Acting United States Attorney Song commended the Federal Bureau of Investigation for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of McNamara.

The FBI’s investigation into McNamara’s activities revealed a brazen scheme that exploited the trust of potential buyers on Craigslist, a popular online marketplace.

McNamara’s sentence serves as a warning to those who would engage in similar schemes, and we commend the FBI and Assistant United States Attorney Desai for their efforts in bringing him to justice.
