Jaquelyne Leiataua, Meth and Fentanyl Possession, Mississippi 2024

Oxford, MS – In a landmark decision against the scourge of illegal drugs and gun violence, Jaquelyne Leiataua, 35, of Columbus, Mississippi, faced the music today, receiving an unyielding sentence of over 12 years in federal prison for her role as a drug trafficker. The Lowndes County native stood before U.S. District Court Judge Glen H. Davidson, where she was handed an 85-month term for distributing methamphetamine and fentanyl with intent to sell, a crime that carries dire consequences for the communities it infiltrates. Additionally, Leiataua received a 60-month sentence for using a firearm in furtherance of her drug trafficking activities, to be served consecutively.

U.S. Attorney Clay Joyner issued a stern warning, stating, “There are consequences for bringing deadly narcotics into our community and for using firearms to protect that illegal trade. We stand united with local law enforcement in safeguarding our citizens against this menace.”

Lowndes County Sheriff Eddie Hawkins echoed the sentiments, “Methamphetamine is a substance that devastates individuals and families. The traffickers who peddle this poison are aiding in death and destruction. This case underscores the importance of law enforcement collaboration in protecting our streets.”

The investigation into Leiataua was a collaborative effort between the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department, the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant U.S. Attorney Clyde McGee led the prosecution in this case.

This case is part of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) operation, which identifies, disrupts, and dismantles high-level criminal organizations. For more information on OCDETF, visit here.
