A federal court in Iowa has handed down a 30-month prison sentence to Jason Henry Miller, a 45-year-old man from Council Bluffs, for his role in a firearm offense.
Miller pleaded guilty to the charge of Prohibited Person in Possession of a Firearm on September 2, 2021. Judge [Judge’s Name] handed down the sentence on February 14, 2022.
According to court documents, law enforcement officers discovered a firearm that had been modified to be an automatic weapon in June 2020 while investigating a drug case. The investigation revealed that Miller had modified the weapon and fired it on his property, which was a clear indication of his possession.
At the time of the offense, Miller was a drug user and had previous convictions for domestic violence, making him prohibited from possessing a firearm. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa led the prosecution in this case.
The Council Bluffs Police Department, Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office, Omaha Police Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigated the case, which was a collaborative effort to bring Miller to justice.
The case serves as a reminder of the importance of enforcing firearms laws and holding individuals accountable for their actions. As a result of this sentence, Miller will serve 30 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release.
