Javier Chavez, Attempted Enticement Of A Minor, Florida 2024

A 35-year-old Sarasota man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for his role in attempting to entice a minor for sexual activity.

According to court documents, Javier Chavez communicated with an undercover law enforcement officer posing as the mother of a 14-year-old girl and her daughter. Despite being informed of the girl’s age, Chavez directly engaged in a sexually explicit conversation with the ‘girl’ and sent explicit videos of himself.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office apprehended Chavez when he arrived at a home with the intention of engaging in sexual activity with the girl. Chavez later admitted to deputies that his intentions with the girl were sexual.

Javier Chavez pleaded guilty to attempted enticement of a minor to engage in sexual activity and attempted transfer of obscene matter to a minor in December 2024.

U.S. District Judge Sheri Polster Chappell handed down the 10-year sentence to Chavez, who was arrested on May 16, 2024.

This case was investigated by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Mark Morgan prosecuted the case.

This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children.
