BANGOR, Maine – In a gritty turn of events, Thomas Ray Cook, 44, from Jay, Maine, has pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Bangor to distributing narcotics and illegally possessing a firearm.
Cook’s crime spree began with the sale of $600 worth of cocaine to an informer of the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency (MDEA) back in February 2025. His activities didn’t stop there; in March, he doubled down by selling another $1,600 worth of cocaine and seven firearms from a different residence in Farmington.
But Cook’s criminal history is no secret. He’s been flagged as prohibited from possessing firearms due to multiple prior felony convictions in Maine state court, including Aggravated Operating after Habitual Offender Revocation and Eluding an Officer.
The consequences for his actions are severe. For the narcotics charge, Cook faces up to 20 years in prison, a $1 million fine, and lifetime supervised release. The firearms possession charge adds another 15 years in the slammer and a $250,000 fine with up to three years of supervised release.
The sentencing will be handled by a federal district court judge, who will consider the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors after reviewing the presentence investigative report prepared by the U.S. Probation Office.
