Jonathan McArthur Brewer, Federal Drug Trafficking, Texas 2024

BEAUMONT, Texas – In a gritty turn of events, Jonathan McArthur Brewer, 55, from Nacogdoches, has pleaded guilty to federal drug trafficking and firearms violations in the Eastern District of Texas. The announcement was made by Acting U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs.

Brewer, who is currently a felon, admitted to being in possession of a firearm and intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine before Magistrate Judge Christine L. Stetson on August 26, 2025.

The court heard details of an intense chase by local law enforcement on June 30, 2024, after responding to a ‘shots fired’ call. Officers chased Brewer in a high-speed pursuit that ended when he was stopped. A search revealed the firearm and a substantial amount of methamphetamine.

Brewer’s previous conviction as a felon meant he was prohibited from owning or possessing firearms. He was indicted by a federal grand jury on May 15, 2025, and faces up to life in federal prison at sentencing.

The maximum sentence for such offenses is prescribed by Congress, but the actual punishment will be determined by the court based on advisory guidelines and other statutory factors. A sentencing hearing is scheduled following a presentence investigation by the U.S. Probation Office.

This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a Department of Justice initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration, eliminating cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protecting communities from violent crime. The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Office, with prosecution led by Assistant U.S. Attorney Donald S. Carter.
