BANGOR, Maine – A Sidney man pleaded guilty to receiving child pornography, a federal crime that carries significant penalties. Jeremy Grignon, 29, used social media platforms to receive videos of child pornography over the internet using his home computer and cellular phone.
According to court records, Grignon received some of the videos from minors themselves. This disturbing behavior has severe consequences for the victims, who suffer revictimization every time the images are viewed. In 2023, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children received 36 million reports of the possession, manufacture, or distribution of child sexual abuse materials.
Grignon faces from five to 20 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and up to a lifetime of supervised release. The exact sentence will be determined by a federal district court judge after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
Homeland Security Investigations and the Maine State Police Computer Crimes Unit investigated the case. Grignon will be sentenced after the completion of a presentence investigative report by the U.S. Probation Office.
The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006. Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
