A Jackson man has pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm and possessing controlled substances with intent to distribute.
Jermaine Lockett, 47, of Jackson, entered his plea today before United States District Judge Tom S. Lee.
Lockett’s guilty plea stems from an incident on December 17, 2017, when officers with the Jackson Police Department observed a vehicle driving erratically in the area of East Frontage Road and Canton Mart Road. The driver, later identified as Lockett, failed to stop for the officers and instead increased speed and fled, eventually hitting another vehicle before coming to a stop.
Lockett was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and fentanyl, and a firearm was recovered from the vehicle. Lockett was arrested and charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm and possessing with intent to distribute methamphetamine and fentanyl.
This case is part of Project EJECT, an initiative by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Mississippi to combat violent crime in Jackson through prosecution, prevention, re-entry, and awareness.
Lockett is scheduled to be sentenced by Judge Lee on July 18, 2018, at 9:30 a.m. and faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine.
