Two Philadelphia Men Charged with Robbery and Gun Crimes

Philadelphia, PA – November 20, 2013 – Jeron Cartwright, 31, and Tyree Scott, 31, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, were charged with conspiracy to commit a Hobbs Act robbery, drug, gun, and other offenses.

According to the indictment, between mid-August 2013 and October 24, 2013, Cartwright and Scott sought the help of another person in arranging the home invasion robbery of drug dealers. The defendants allegedly planned to steal, at gunpoint, approximately ten kilograms of cocaine.

The plan was interrupted by law enforcement on October 24, 2013, when the defendants attempted, unsuccessfully, to carry out the armed home invasion robbery.

In addition to the conspiracy, the indictment charges Cartwright and Scott with attempted commission of a Hobbs Act robbery, aiding and abetting the attempted commission of a Hobbs Act robbery, conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine, attempted possession with intent to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine, carrying a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence and to a drug trafficking crime, and being convicted felons in possession of a firearm.

If convicted, the defendants face a maximum possible sentence of life imprisonment. Cartwright faces a 25-year mandatory minimum sentence, while Scott faces a 15-year mandatory minimum sentence.

This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Philadelphia Police Department. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Thomas M. Zaleski.

Cartwright and Scott are currently awaiting trial. The public is reminded that these charges are merely allegations and that the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
