Rapid City Man Charged with Child Pornography

A 60-year-old Rapid City man has been arrested and charged with federal crimes for his alleged involvement in the possession and distribution of child pornography.

According to the indictment, Jerry Lamont uploaded at least four pictures and 22 videos of child pornography into his Dropbox cloud storage account between January and December 2024. The disturbing images depicted children as young as toddlers being sexually abused.

The maximum penalty for receiving child pornography is a mandatory minimum term of five years up to 20 years in custody and/or a $250,000 fine, a mandatory minimum of five years up to life of supervised release, and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund for each count of conviction. Restitution may also be ordered.

Lamont is being held in custody and is set to go on trial on April 15, 2025. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Heather Knox.

The investigation is being conducted by the South Dakota Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office. This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.

Lamont was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service on February 7, 2025, after appearing before Magistrate Judge Daneta L. Wollmann. He pleaded not guilty to the indictment.

The charges against Lamont are merely accusations, and he is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
