Carjacking Suspect Gets 7 Years in Prison
WASHINGTON DC – A Maryland man will spend the next seven years behind bars for his role in a carjacking that left a family shaken. Jesse Green III, 41, of Germantown, Md., was sentenced on the charges.
On January 8, 2017, the unsuspecting family was driving in a GMC Yukon sports utility vehicle when Green, who was standing near a neighboring house, jumped into the driver’s seat and sped off with the woman and her 2-year-old granddaughter still inside. The child was safely secured in a car seat.
The woman demanded that Green let them out and attempted to grab the steering wheel, but he refused, driving recklessly through the streets and crashing into several obstacles before being apprehended. The victims were taken to a hospital for examination and treatment.
Green pleaded guilty to the charges in February 2017 and was sentenced by the Honorable Ronna L. Beck. Upon completion of his prison term, he will be placed on three years of supervised release.
U.S. Attorney Channing D. Phillips and Acting Chief of the Metropolitan Police Department Peter Newsham commended the work of those who investigated and prosecuted the case, including Assistant U.S. Attorney Kathryn Rakoczy, Paralegal Specialist Richard Cheatham, and Victim/Witness Advocate James Brennan.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of carjacking and the importance of public safety. We hope that justice has been served and that the victims can begin to heal.
Green’s sentence is a testament to the efforts of law enforcement and the justice system. The family’s ordeal will never be forgotten, but with this sentence, we take a step towards closure.
