Sedalia Man Guilty of Child Porn

Sedalia, Mo. – Jesse William Laws, 37, of Sedalia, pleaded guilty in federal court yesterday to possessing child pornography.

Jesse William Laws, a convicted sex offender, admitted to possessing 107 possible images of child pornography on his cell phone. He was under supervised release at the time of the discovery, having been convicted in 2006 of receiving and possessing child pornography in the District of Montana.

Laws was required to register as a sex offender due to his previous convictions. He was sentenced to nine years in federal prison and is currently serving a two-year sentence for violating the conditions of his supervised release.

The probation office searched Laws’s residence on February 11, 2015, after he was suspected of violating certain conditions of his release. He admitted to drinking and being in the presence of children without permission, both of which were in violation of his supervised release.

The court revoked his supervised release and sentenced him to two years in federal prison without parole. He is now facing a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in federal prison without parole, up to a sentence of 20 years in federal prison without parole.

The case was investigated by the U.S. Office of Probation and Parole and the FBI, and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Lawrence Miller.

Jesse William Laws’s sentencing hearing will be scheduled after the completion of a presentence investigation by the United States Probation Office.
