Jessica Lee Lynch, Drug Trafficking, West Virginia 2021

MARTINSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA – A Hampshire County woman has been sentenced to 12 months in federal prison for her role in a drug trafficking operation, United States Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II announced.

Jessica Lee Lynch, 38, of Augusta, West Virginia, pleaded guilty in July 2021 to one count of “Conspiracy to Possess with Intent to Distribute and to Distribute Heroin, Fentanyl, and Cocaine Base.” Lynch admitted to working with another individual to distribute the controlled substances from January 2020 through October 2020.

Lynch was sentenced to 12 months of incarceration by Chief U.S. District Judge Gina M. Groh. The U.S. Attorney’s Office worked closely with the Hampshire County Prosecutor’s Office to bring this case forward. In addition, the Potomac Highlands Drug & Violent Crime task Force, a HIDTA funded initiative, investigated the case.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Lara K. Omps-Botteicher prosecuted the case on behalf of the government. The case highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to combat the opioid epidemic in the region.

Lynch’s conviction was the result of a joint investigation involving the Potomac Highlands Drug & Violent Crime task Force. The task force works to identify and disrupt the flow of illicit substances into the community.

The case is a reminder of the dangers of drug trafficking and the importance of working together to prevent the distribution of these harmful substances. The U.S. Attorney’s Office will continue to work with law enforcement agencies to bring those responsible for these crimes to justice.
