Heroin Dealer Gets 46 Months in Prison for Role in Overdose Death
A 23-year-old Bridgeport man has been sentenced to 46 months in federal prison for distributing heroin to a victim who later died from an overdose.
Jevaughn Watson, 23, of Bridgeport, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Robert N. Chatigny in Hartford for distributing heroin. He was also ordered to serve three years of supervised release following his prison term.
The case is part of an ongoing statewide initiative targeting narcotics dealers who distribute heroin, fentanyl, or opioids that cause death or serious injury to users.
The investigation into Watson’s activities began after the death of a 25-year-old woman in Trumbull on August 18, 2016. Police and emergency medical personnel responded to a residence and found the victim unresponsive on the floor of a bedroom.
During the investigation, police discovered several empty wax folds and some wax folds containing suspected heroin in the victim’s pocketbook. Analysis of text messages on the victim’s cellphone revealed that she had ordered heroin from Watson several times over the course of approximately two months prior to her death.
Watson has been detained since his arrest on September 7, 2016. He pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute, and distribution of, heroin on December 1, 2016.
The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Bridgeport Resident Office, the DEA’s New Haven Tactical Diversion Squad, and the Trumbull and Monroe Police Departments, with the assistance of the Bridgeport Police Department.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Douglas P. Morabito.
