Local Man Admits to Heinous Crime
A Browning man accused of sexually abusing two children on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation has admitted to the charges, Acting U.S. Attorney Leif M. Johnson said.
Jonathan Cadotte, 60, pleaded guilty to a superseding information charging him with aggravated sexual abuse and aggravated sexual abuse of a child.
According to court documents, Cadotte engaged in a sexual act by force against a victim, identified as Jane Doe 1, from about September 2019 to September 2020 in the Browning area on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation.
Cadotte also allegedly engaged in a sexual act with a victim, identified as Jane Doe 2, who had not yet reached 12 years of age, from 1993 to about 1998, also in the Browning area.
The government alleged that Cadotte’s actions were a serious breach of trust and a heinous crime that has caused irreparable harm to the victims and their families.
Cadotte faces a maximum of life in prison, a $250,000 fine, and at least five years of supervised release.
Chief U.S. District Judge Brian M. Morris presided over the hearing and set sentencing for December 8.
Cadotte was detained pending further proceedings.
The case was investigated by the FBI, Bureau of Indian Affairs, and Blackfeet Law Enforcement Services.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Kalah A. Paisley is prosecuting the case.
The community is still reeling from the news, and many are calling for justice and accountability for those responsible.
Cadotte’s guilty plea marks a significant step towards bringing closure to the victims and their families.
