Tampa, Florida – A Clearwater man was sentenced to eight years in federal prison for possessing and transporting child pornography, with a 15-year term of supervision and registration as a sex offender following his release from prison, as part of his sentence.
U.S. District Judge James S. Moody, Jr. handed down the sentence to Jonathan William Lauman (27, Clearwater) on February 25, 2016.
Lauman was found to have downloaded and possessed more than 1,500 videos and over 50,000 images of young children, including infants, engaged in sexual acts with adults, according to court documents.
“Downloading sexually explicit images and videos of young children creates lifelong scars for victims and enables perpetrators around the globe to continuously exploit those same innocent youths,” said Susan L. McCormick, special agent in charge of Homeland Security Investigations (“HSI”) Tampa.
HSI special agents worked with law enforcement partners to target Lauman, who hoarded and transported these videos and images on his personal laptop.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Lauman pleaded guilty to the charges in February 2016 and was subsequently sentenced to 8 years in federal prison.
The court also ordered Lauman to pay restitution to several victims, as part of his sentence.
