A Putnam County man’s sickening abuse of a child under 12 while stationed in Germany has finally been exposed. Dustin Stover Bowles, 42, was convicted of aggravated sexual abuse after a federal jury deliberated for four days.
The abuse unfolded between September 2006 and December 2006, when Bowles babysat the victim at his home in Hurricane, West Virginia. The victim didn’t reveal the abuse until 2020, when they confided in Army criminal investigators and several trusted adults.
But that was just the tip of the iceberg. Three more victims testified that Bowles had also preyed on them while they were asleep. ‘He preyed on a child entrusted to his care and committed a calculated, predatory act,’ said US Attorney Moore Capito.
Bowles, a former US Army soldier, faces a mandatory minimum penalty of 30 years in federal prison. He’s scheduled to be sentenced on August 3, 2026.
