Jorge Flores, Murder in aid of racketeering, Tennessee 2023

NASHVILLE, TN – The streets of Nashville saw a chilling display of gangland brutality between 2014 and 2021, culminating in the federal convictions of three MS-13 members yesterday. Jorge Flores, 30, aka Peluche; Kevin Tidwell, 29, aka Miklo; and Jose Pineda-Caceres, 24, aka Demente, were found guilty on a litany of charges including RICO conspiracy, murder in aid of racketeering, attempted murder, drug trafficking, and the grim practice of evidence destruction. The jury’s verdict brings a measure of closure to a reign of terror orchestrated by the notoriously violent La Mara Salvatrucha gang.

Federal prosecutors laid bare a pattern of calculated violence, revealing how MS-13 operates as a ruthless criminal enterprise. Testimony showed the gang’s ironclad rules – absolute silence towards law enforcement, punishable by death, and a mandate to violently confront rivals or anyone perceived as a threat. Membership wasn’t earned through loyalty, but through bloodshed, with murders serving as both initiation rites and demonstrations of power. The gang’s aim: to consolidate control, expand territory, and profit from criminal activity, all enforced through intimidation and extreme violence.

The evidence painted a horrific picture of escalating brutality. Jose Pineda-Caceres, a Honduran national, participated in two separate murders in 2016. The first, on April 6th, involved luring a suspected rival gang member to a field and executing him to gain entry into MS-13. Just months later, on July 31st, Pineda-Caceres chased down a victim’s car after leaving a Nashville nightclub, fatally shooting the victim while attempting to kill his brother. The cold-blooded precision of these acts highlights the gang’s dedication to violence.

Jorge Flores and Kevin Tidwell upped the ante in 2017, engaging in two more gruesome killings. On May 21st, they unleashed eleven rounds into a victim they believed was connected to a rival gang, gunning him down while he sat in his car. Just days later, on May 27th, they pursued another victim in a vehicle, shooting him as he attempted to escape. But the most disturbing act came on September 24th, when Flores murdered a victim, and other gang members placed the body in the trunk of a car before setting it ablaze in Cheatham County, Tennessee – a desperate attempt to erase all traces of their crime. The sheer callousness is staggering.

The three convicted defendants now face a mandatory minimum sentence of life in prison. They were found guilty of RICO conspiracy, five counts of murder, multiple attempted murders in aid of racketeering, conspiracies to commit murder, firearms offenses, tampering with evidence, and drug distribution. The jury’s decision sends a clear message: Nashville won’t tolerate this level of depravity. However, this isn’t the end of the case. Six other defendants – Carlos Ochoa, 33; Jason Sandoval, 37; Gerson Serrano-Ramirez, 35; Franklin Hernandez, 23; Juan Melendez, 24; and Luis Colindres, 26 – have already pleaded guilty to RICO conspiracy and related charges, signaling a wider crackdown on MS-13 activity in the region.

The multi-year investigation, led by the ATF, underscores the challenges law enforcement faces in dismantling deeply entrenched criminal organizations like MS-13. While these convictions represent a significant victory, the fight against gang violence is far from over. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and expose the dark underbelly of federal crime, holding those responsible for these atrocities accountable for their actions.
