Florida Man Indicted for Producing and Possessing Child Pornography

In a shocking turn of events, a 28-year-old man from Orlando has been charged with producing and possessing child pornography, a heinous crime that has left many in the community reeling. Jorge Guerrero-Torres, a resident of Orlando, Florida, was arrested on June 6, 2016, in Fort Myers and has been detained pending further proceedings.

According to the indictment, Guerrero-Torres is accused of producing and possessing child pornography, a charge that carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison. The indictment also alleges that Guerrero-Torres produced child pornography, which carries a minimum mandatory sentence of 15 years, up to 30 years, in federal prison.

An indictment is merely a formal charge that a defendant has committed one or more violations of federal criminal law, and every defendant is presumed innocent unless, and until, proven guilty.

This case was investigated by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, who worked tirelessly to bring Guerrero-Torres to justice. The case will be prosecuted by Chief Assistant United States Attorney Jesus M. Casas and Assistant United States Attorney Charles Schmitz.

The case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.

Guerrero-Torres remains detained pending further proceedings, and if convicted, he will face a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison on the possession charge, and a minimum mandatory sentence of 15 years, up to 30 years, in federal prison on the production charge.
