SIOUX FALLS – A local man has been sentenced to federal prison for his role in attempting to entice a minor using the internet.
Jorge Manuel Rodriguez-Marroquin, 48, was sentenced to the mandatory minimum sentence of ten years in federal prison, followed by five years of supervised release.
He will also be required to pay a special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund in the amount of $100. Additionally, Rodriguez-Marroquin must register as a sex offender upon release from federal prison.
The conviction stemmed from an incident on March 9, 2024, when Rodriguez-Marroquin used Facebook to start a conversation with who he believed was a 15-year-old girl.
He steered the conversation to sexual matters and enticed her to meet up with him for sexual activity. Unbeknownst to Rodriguez-Marroquin, the 15-year-old was an undercover law enforcement agent.
Rodriguez-Marroquin was arrested when he showed up at the meet location.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Rodriguez-Marroquin was immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
