New Orleans, Louisiana – In a shocking case of disregard for U.S. immigration laws, Honduran national Jose Angel Espinoza-Fuentes, age 42, was sentenced yesterday for his brazen attempt to reenter the United States after being previously deported.
According to court documents, Espinoza-Fuentes was found in the United States on July 1, 2018, despite having been deported from the country on July 22, 2011.
U.S. Attorney Peter G. Strasser praised the work of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in investigating this matter and bringing Espinoza-Fuentes to justice.
The court sentenced Espinoza-Fuentes to time served (6 months), a $2,500 fine, followed by one year of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment fee.
The defendant will be surrendered to the custody of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for removal proceedings, marking the end of a tumultuous chapter in his life.
