Jose Arteaga-Centeno, Illegal Alien Reentry, Louisiana 2023

NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA – A Mexican national has been sentenced to 37 months in prison and fined $15,000 for reentering the United States after being previously deported.

Jose Arteaga-Centeno, 44, was found in the US on March 8, 2018, after having been deported on May 24, 2013.

According to court documents, Arteaga-Centeno was previously convicted of a felony on September 29, 2011.

Arteaga-Centeno pleaded guilty to a one-count indictment for illegal reentry of a removed alien.

United States District Court Judge Martin L.C. Feldman handed down the sentence, also ordering Arteaga-Centeno to pay a $100 special assessment fee and imposing a three-year term of supervised release.

Following the completion of his sentence, Arteaga-Centeno will be surrendered to the custody of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for removal proceedings.

U.S. Attorney Peter G. Strasser praised the work of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in investigating this matter.

Assistant United States Attorney Jon Maestri is in charge of the prosecution.
