Jose Marco Aguilar Charged with Illegal Reentry

A 42-year-old Mexican citizen has been charged with a serious crime that puts him behind bars for up to 20 years.

Jose Marco Aguilar, 42, was indicted by a Federal Grand Jury in the Eastern District of Louisiana on one count of illegal reentry by an alien previously removed, announced U.S. Attorney Dana J. Boente.

According to the indictment, on April 30, 2013, Aguilar, an alien who had previously been removed from the United States, was found in the United States within the Eastern District of Louisiana, without having obtained consent from the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security to reapply for admission to the United States.

Aguilar’s prior removal was due to a previous conviction, which makes his current offense even more severe. If convicted, he faces a maximum term of imprisonment of 20 years, a fine of $250,000 and three years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment.

U.S. Attorney Boente reiterated that the indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

The case was investigated by United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Enforcement and Removal Operations (ICE) and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office. The prosecution is being handled by Special Assistant United States Attorney Robert Weir.

Aguilar’s case serves as a reminder of the gravity of violating U.S. immigration laws and the consequences that come with it.
