Joseph Reed, Bank Robbery, Louisiana 2021

NEW ORLEANS, LA – Joseph Reed, a 35-year-old New Orleans resident, has been accused of attempting to rob a Chase Bank branch in the city.

According to an indictment filed on November 12, 2021, Reed allegedly tried to rob the Chase Bank located on North Broad Street in New Orleans on or about October 9, 2021.

The indictment charges Reed with Bank Robbery in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 2113(a). If convicted, Reed faces up to 20 years in the Federal Bureau of Prisons, a $250,000 fine, up to three years of supervised release, and a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.

U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans announced the indictment, reiterating that the charge is merely an accusation and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

The U.S. Attorney praised the work of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Violent Crime Task Force, officers with the New Orleans Police Department, and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in the case.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Jon Maestri is handling the prosecution.

Reed, who is currently facing the Bank Robbery charge, must be proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt if he is to be convicted. The case is ongoing, and further updates will be provided as necessary.
