West Virginia Man Admits to Unlawful Possession of Firearm
In a disturbing case, Joshua Anthony Doty, a 35-year-old resident of Steubenville, Ohio, has pleaded guilty to one count of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm in Brooke County, West Virginia.
According to the plea agreement, Doty admitted to having a 12-gauge shotgun in December 2019. This possession is unlawful due to his prior convictions, which render him prohibited from having a firearm.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the West Virginia Department of Natural Resources. Assistant U.S. Attorney David J. Perri is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government.
U.S. Magistrate Judge James P. Mazzone presided over the hearing. Doty faces up to 10 years of incarceration and a fine of up to $250,000. The actual sentence will be determined by the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, taking into account the seriousness of the offense and Doty’s prior criminal history.
The plea agreement marks a significant development in the case, and Grimy Times will continue to monitor the situation for any further updates.
