Franklin County Man Sentenced to 18 Years in Prison for Child Enticement

A Franklin County man has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for attempting to meet a 12-year-old girl for sex and fleeing from police.

Joshua L. Brown, 40, of St. Clair, Missouri, pleaded guilty on December 21, 2021, to a felony charge of coercion and enticement of a minor.

Brown admitted to offering drugs to the 12-year-old girl in exchange for sex. At the time, he was on parole from a 2011 child molestation conviction in Jefferson County Circuit Court.

The crime occurred on March 3, 2020, when Brown used Instagram to contact the girl, making remarks about her breasts, requesting photographs, and referencing engaging in sexual acts with her.

The girl’s mother contacted the Breckenridge Hills Police Department, and police took over the girl’s cellphone and Instagram account, posing as her. Brown offered to provide marijuana and methamphetamine in exchange for sex and arranged to meet the girl at Sims Park in Breckenridge Hills.

On March 17, 2020, Brown showed up at the park in a Ford F150 truck and fled from police after being stopped. He ran three stop signs and two traffic lights before crashing the truck and fleeing on foot.

Brown was arrested in Jefferson County in January 2021 after a brief standoff.

A review of Brown’s Instagram account revealed that he followed a large number of Instagram pages devoted to young girls.

U.S. District Judge Rodney W. Sippel sentenced Brown to 18 years in prison on Thursday.
